Technology vendor Electrone’s System200 has modular design for complete system customisation and legacy migration.

6th November 2007: With the massive growth across the UK in operator controlled CCTV cameras, Electrone Europe, custom-designed IT peripherals vendor, is launching a new fully programmable control pad designed for CCTV systems.
The Electrone System200 enables remote operators to control multiple cameras using a basic PC and internet or network connection.
Electrone has designed the System200 so it can offer customers a migration path from legacy (analogue) environments to new digital or mixed environments. This produces significant cost savings by removing the need to re-train operators.
Originally released in the North and South American security markets, the Electrone System200 is equipped with a triple-axis joystick. This enables the operator to pan, tilt and zoom remote motorised cameras and the modular design allows for up to 50 programmable buttons – each capable of controlling or operating a separate action or activity. The joystick is specially designed for a natural motion and includes two buttons and six programmable membrane keys at the joystick base.
IP CCTV hardware and software provider Sirrus Technologies, whose clients include Nestle, British Waterways and the Health Protection Agency, are now partnering with Electrone to roll-out the device.
Mike Holt, Managing Director of Sirrus Technologies, says: “The IP CCTV industry now needs to take a modern workstation based approach. Therefore, we have been waiting to see PC-friendly peripherals such as Electrone’s programmable joypads. These devices complement our software tools which steer and control PTZ cameras of a wide range of differing makes, including ‘legacy’ types. We are incorporating drivers to make all of our software compatible with the System200 joypads, allowing a painless migration to the new technology.”
Mike Buchanan, Head of Marketing of Electrone Europe, comments: “By designing the System200 with a large amount of programmable keys, the system can interact with new PCs and old CCTV applications to control the cameras in a way that mimics old analogue processes. Customers can setup the device to emulate their old legacy environments and control room operators will not have to adjust their working practices.”
The control pad has also been used by regional police forces in North and South America where officers have used the System200 to monitor traffic offenders and criminals on the road.
The Electrone System200’s graphic LCD is also capable of displaying any language including Arabic, Chinese and Urdu. This allows bi-directional communication and specific commands to be issued direct to the operator without interrupting what is displayed on any monitor. Complex user tasks can be prompted step by step using the inbuilt display.
The product can also be used for a wide range of applications outside the security market. These include supervising processing plants, oil refineries or the monitoring of any critical installation worldwide. For example, an operator in London could easily conduct visual inspections of machinery in a remote location such as China or the Far East using the programmable capabilities of the joystick and control pad.
The Electrone System200 is fully compliant with the strict RoHS environmental standards and could also be ordered with a metal enclosure to make it suitable for use in very harsh environments including the industrial and pharmaceutical industries
Electrone is expanding across Europe and is now looking to expand its network of resellers for a range of new products.
