Specsavers roll-out global deployment of electronic keyboards

Published by: Optical World, August 2009

Specsavers are embarking on an international deployment of specialised keyboards from custom-built IT peripherals vendor, Electrone Europe (http://www.electrone.co.uk). To meet small form factor requirements at point
of service desks, Specsavers will deploy Electrone's 9001 minikeyboards as well & full-size Electrone 7900 wireless keyboards in eye testing rooms in stores around the world.

These new devices will be deployed in all new stores - about 50 expected to open in the UK alone this year - with more than 800 Specsavers stores now in the UK, Holland and Ireland. Next on the schedule in 2009 to deploy these speclallst keyboards will be the new Specsavers stores in Australia and Finland.

With more than 1370 stores across the Channel Islands, UK, Republic of Ireland, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Spain, Australia and New Zealand, Specsavers have now standardised on the Elearone 9001 mini-keyboard and Electrone 7900 wireless business keyboard. Tim Danlels, international store implementatlon coordinator at Specsavers, explains, We were having issues finding a manufacturer who would commit to producing keyboards over asuitable life span for commercial use as most keyboards we found were produced for the home environment, not the clinical environment we required them for. We needed a specialised wlreless keyboard for continuous business use, on which we could
standardise, with a guarantee of several years of manufacture and support.'

Having successfully trialled the Electrone compact keyboards at the point of service and the wireless keyboards in the eye test rooms within Specsavers stores in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands it made sense for Specsavers to standardise on one supplier. The next stage will be the planned installation of the hardware in Australia and Finland.
